Editions posted in MDGF with future date

Hi Experts,

I have a question, if we replicate immediately with an edition valid only from a future date , example 1 August 2014 for a new object on final approval, does this mean the object can end up in ECC but will only be usable from the future date specified in the edition.

I have noted that the validity from is the same data as the start of the edition for new objects.

The object, example new profit center will end up in the ECC system but will only become valid in ECC on the valid from date from the edition.

If this is true, would it be valid for all objects created with an edition like Cost Center, Cost Center Hierarchy etch?

Secondly if we perform a change with an edition in the future for existing objects and replicate the change to ECC with the future edition on final approval of change request, does the change only become valid on the specified future date of the edition in ECC.

Thanks and best regards

Riaan

Hi Riaan,

you have to take a look at the SAP ERP backend foreach object in details, since SAP ERP treats objects differently.

Considering Cost Centers, Profit Centers and Cost Elements (including their related hierarchies), SAP ERP treats those as time dependent objects. This means that SAP ERP is able to create time slices for those objects.

Considering the G/L Account or the Financial Reporting Structure (resp. Financial Statement Version), those are time independent objects in SAP ERP.

In MDG-F every object is time dependend. Valid from and valid to dates are defined by the edition within MDG. In case of data replication to a SAP ERP system, all objects that are time dependent in SAP ERP are always sent including all existing time slices. Those objects that are not time dependent in SAP ERP are only sent, if you have used a valid time slice for replication.

Example:

Account ABCD is available in two editions in MDG-F: edition 1) valid from 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2014 and edition 2) valid from 01.01.2015 to 31.12.9999. Any change that you perform TODAY in edition 1) is valid for data replication. Any change that you perform TODAY in edition 2) is NOT valid for data replication since this future change must not be replicated before  01.01.2015 to SAP ERP. If setup correctly, the MDG replication takes care of that (consult the MDG-F configuration guide for more details).

Best regards

Hello Riaan

Your analysis is correct. If you create edition with future date, data will be replicated in future date in ECC and will be available from that day. CC and PC status will be inactive.

For GL - You can use the GL even if edition date is in future as GL is not controlled by date. You can lock the GL for that time frame and unlock later on when you want to use.
