Hi All ,
java nodes got restarted automatically , We see this was due to OOM situation . In case of OOM situation on Java node, server nodes will restart
automatically and we will come to know once they have been restarted.
Its not possible to collect thread dumps before ? in case automatic
restart. We can only collect thread dumps only after restart and I am not sure
that it will collect the required information as the PID of the server process
will change and thread dumps are generated on the basis of PID of the server
processes.
is it helpul taking the thread dumps after automatic restat of java nodes ?

Hi All ,
Thanks . So Thread dumps cannot help after restart of java . Only usefull of heap dumps .
Please let me know the tools to parse the dumps.

Hi Ravinder,
If your nodes are restarting because of OOM then you can take thread dumps but you need heap dumps for further analysis. You can take thread dumps when the GC is high on server nodes. For that you can monitor std_server(x).out file.
Also, if you will check the heap dumps, then you will get to know that package is causing issue in your hep memory. So, thread dumps are of no use after the restart.

Hi Ravinder,
A thread dump is a snapshot of state of all the JAVA threads. This will help you to perform root cause analysis on a critical failure.
Refer to below SAP note for configuration of thread dumps
Note 710154 - How to create a thread dump for the J2EE Engine 6.40/7.0
Below SAP help can provide guidance on thread dump analysis

Hope this helps.
