Hi all,

can please explain exactly the use of CONS workspace(Active/InActive) in NWDI. The CBS can build the file with the activities in Active work space of Dev .Whats  the need for transferring the activites from dev Active workspace to inactive workspace of CONS and again activating it?

Regards

Prasad

Hi,

just one small addition to your initial post.

There is no need to do explicit activation in cons, as there an automatic force activation takes place.
Further, do not check-out from cons, it is reserved for cbs. As Jun said, consider it as a more stable variant of your software.

Once you do an assembly, it is always considering the cons/active, meaning, you import to cons such changes which you want to be part of your product.

Ervin

If you are working on version 2.0 of your SC in DEV and want to make a small change to your production system (which has version 1.0), you can use CONS (if it still has version 1.0) to make the change.

The change made in CONS will propagate back to DEV, which will appear as a conflict in NWDS and will have to handled by the developer.

A better way of managing the above is through a dual track setup

As per the SAP docs

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_rc10/helpdata/en/73/cf61253f4c4536b5047faf6e9e7f71/content.htm

"Automatic back transports are particularly useful if you run your complete software lifecycle in a single track, and use the consolidation system for making corrections to the production state of your software."

but in reality, who is going to use single track for both development and maintenance?

your example may show one function of the CONS, but it is not main purpose of CONS

I agree, and should only be used in exceptional circumstances.

you can consider the  CONS  as a more stable copy of your SC

Normally you just release activity to CONS and do the import from CMS, no additional work like activation...
