Slow backup performance after Oracle Upgrade to 11.2.0.4 + sap kernel 721_ext

Dear Experts,

After upgrading to Oracle 11.2.0.4 + SAP Kernel 721_EXT from Oracle 10.2.0.4 + SAP Kernel 700, we had a problem with backup performance using brtools. The backup time took pretty long running with 20 hours for 3.6TB.

Before upgrade to Oracle 11.2.0.4 the backup performance just took 12 hours for 3.6TB.

What's parameter need to be tuned?

Thank You

Edy

Hi Edy,

We need more information about how you perform an Oracle backup. Do you use Oracle RMAN (with or without BR*Tools) or do you perform the old fashion file based backup? Do you backup directly to tape (with third party MML or not) or to disk? Have you switched between both backup types after upgrade?

There are a lot of possibilities and configurations that we don't know yet. For example it is a well known issue, that the metadata collection (before the actual backup begins) can slow down the backup times dramatically, if you are using RMAN.

Hi Stefan,

We don't used RMAN, just brtools (brbackup command). The backup directly to tape.
