Installing SAP ERP on Oracle Database

Former Member

Hi,

I am a highly experienced Oracle professional but very new to SAP. I am hoping to learn SAP, particularly the SAP ERP business applications such as Financials, Procurement and Sales & Distribution.

So to start with, I was hoping to install an SAP ERP instance on an Oracle Enterprise Database 11g or 12c. And in relation to this I have a couple of questions. Please bear with me as I am very new to SAP and would highly appreciate if you could help. (Also please do not use SAP specific abbreviations since they would simply bounce off my head ).

1. Where do I download SAP ERP?  Do I need to be a customer to download and install for personal learning purposes?

2. I read it somewhere that the software can be downloaded from http://service.sap.com. If yes, then how to I get access to this website?

3. Is there a demonstration database that SAP provides for learning purposes (this way I don't have to worry about the functional setups)? If yes, where can I find the list of exact software to be downloaded, and the installation guide to install SAP ERP on Oracle Enterprise Database on a single node (that is both db tier and application tier on same machine)?

I guess these are the bare minimum questions to let my SAP learning gig going 🙂

Thanks again for reading and looking forward to get some valuable suggestions and advice.

Regards

Kabeer Khan

In order to download installation media you need to be an SAP customer. SAP will provide you an S-user which you can use to access the software download site http://service.sap.com/swdc

There are NetWeaver trial versions but they are not based on Oracle database.

Installation guides are downloaded from http://service.sap.com/instguides

Thank you for replying. So there's no way I can download the trial version without being a SAP customer? I guess this is gonna be a big hurdle for learning SAP.

On the contrary, I believe anyone with a registered user-id can download Oracle software from their edelivery website.

Hi Kabeer,

You  must have a S-user in the website service.sap.com in order to download SAP Sofware. You need being a SAP customer to have access to this website.

It depends on the license you get from SAP so you can download Oracle database or MS SQL or whatever. Not all the customer are able to download Oracle software from SAP service.sap.com.

There is a SAP ECC IDES version that is prepared for testing purposes. It's not a trial version, it is a testing environment with data.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Martina

Hi Martina

Thanks for replying.

1. I am not a SAP customer, but run my own company. So I guess its a bit difficult road ahead for me to get my hands on SAP ERP software.

2. Re SAP ECC IDES, is this also requires access to service.sap.com website? Or is this something which can be downloaded from elsewhere within sap.com domain?

The bottom line is, I require personal access to SAP ERP software to learn, and then it could potentially lead to further interests in SAP ERP products (in terms of selling and implementation).

I wish SAP had something like a 'trial' license which could allow access to download and independently self-learn it.

Installations done with the media used from SMP will require an SAP license. License can be requested only through SMP with a valid s-user. Downloading the Oracle database software from Oracle site is not going to help you unless you have the SAP installation media to install it. After installing the system you need to install a valid license to make use of it.

Regarding the trial versions you may check these blogs.

Hi Kabeer,

To download SAP ECC IDES you need S-user to access the website service.sap.com. The download software is there.

As I know there is not a trial license as you request to evaluate this software. But you can try writing directly to SAP and requesting it.

Martina

Hi RB

Thanks for replying. Most of the links you have given are pointing to other SAP software, and I am not interested in them (but thanks). I am particularly after learning SAP ERP software only.

Like I mentioned above they are only trial versions of SAP ABAP systems and you will not be able to get an ERP system for your personal use unless you pay for the license.
