Installing SAP Developer Workplace NW2004s as an add-on to the portal

Former Member

We are currently running SAP Netweaver 2004s-SP10 as EP platform. We would like to install the Developer Workplace as add-on without disturbing the existing Portal configuration and Contents. Is it any method available to install DWS as add-on? If any one has done it already, please let me know...it is urgent.

we could able to download and install NWDS 7.0SP10 on the server which is found as a standalone developer tool. Thanks for your valuable support and feedbacks.

Gopinath,

Do you really mean Developer Workplace or are you looking for Netweaver Developer Studio (NWDS)?

We are looking at Netweaver 2004s Developer Studio which comes along with the Netweaver 2004s Developer Workspace DVD.

You can download the Developer Studio seperately from Developer Workplace on service marketplace.

Mr. Greg

Thanks for your immediate replies. But, when I installed the Developer Workspace 2004s, it has removed the complete Database Schema & came with new portal. Whatever we customized on the netweaver 2004s EP environment are completely removed. Hence, my question is whether can we install the developer workspace 2004s on top of netweaver 2004s EP platform which is already running.

Correct Developer Workspace installs an entire new Web AS, portal, and the Developer Studio. You just need the Developer Studio which you can download separately from service marketplace. Go to the downloads tab... click "Search for all Categories" on the left... search for "Developer Studio". You will want to match the Developer Studio to your engine's version so click on Developer Studio 7.00 and in the next screen find the one that is SP10. This should get you the install files you really need. There is plenty of documentation out on service marketplace and SDN for setting up Developer Studio to deploy to the Java engine you already have.

hi mr.greg

ok. if we install only developer studio nw2004s-sp10 on top of the existing netweaver 2004s EP platform, where will we get the components of developer workspace like CAF, Adobe Document Services? Will the developer studio configure the existing AS Java EP with all these components?

I don't know a lot about CAF or ADS, but they are part of the J2EE engine and on my local engine they are already installed. Are you sure they aren't already on the engine that runs your portal? You can check by looking at the undeployment tab in SDM. It will show you everything that is already deployed. Mine has an AdobeDocumentServices and many caf/.... SDAs already deployed. As far as I know the Developer Workplace just includes the J2EE engine, the DB, and NWDS. If you already have a portal running you obviously have the engine and the DB so I think you only need the NWDS.

Hi mr.greg

I could see only the Support Package File for NWD Studio 7.0 SP10, not the initial installation file. Where can I download the initial installation file.

Hi Mr. Greg

do we need to have the existing portal installed with NWDI option in case of installing the developer studio alone? because our existing portal installed with Non-NWDI.

Hi Mr. Ankur

Thanks. Its good that we don't need to re-install our entire portal.

but, where can i get the initial installation file of Netweaver 2004s Developer Studio 7.0 SP10? because, when I searched on all categories found that it was only Support Package NWDSxxxx.SAR file.

The only thing is that I think this is link for downloading NWDS SP9. Can you just try if it solves your purpose.

Hi Ankur

It is 90 days evaluation edition and moreover I am looking at NWDS2004s-SP10 due to our existing portal already patched with SP10.

Hi Gopinath,

I am searching on Sap Service Marketplace.

Go to <a href="http://service.sap.com/">http://service.sap.com/</a>, and then go to <b>SAP Support Portal</b>. You will be directed to following link: <a href="https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/support">https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/support</a>

Now go to <b>Downloads</b> tab, and then <b>SAP Software Distribution Center</b>.

Now on the left side expand <i>SAP Software Distribution Center -> Download -> Installations and Upgrades -> Search for Installations and Upgrades</i>

Now enter <b>developer Studio</b> in search field, and when you will search, you will find 4 results, all pointing to <b>NW DEVELOPER STUDIO 2.0</b>. Can you please try doing all this once, maybe i am missing out something.

Also see this note:

The file you are looking to download is a SAR file. It should be called something like JIDE10 0-10003480.SAR

Once you download the file use the SAPCAR utility to unpack the file and you will a created folder structure within it a IDE70setup.exe.

Go to the Support Portal...Click the Downloads tab...click search for all categories... search for developer studio...click the NW DEVELOPER STUDIO 7.00 link...click the NW DEVELOPER STUDIO 7.00 link on the popup window...click Win32...check the box for the correct version SP10...download it directly or use the SAP Download Manager...use SAPCAR to unpack the .SAR file

Hi Ankur

I have gone through the document which you have pasted. But, that is meant for Netweaver 2004 which was released during year 2004 and also it is not saying that any add-on option on the existing portal. I am looking at whether we can install the Netweaver 2004s developer workspace with developer sudio on it as an add-on component in our existing EP which is installed as No-NWDS scenerio. I hope, you understood my situation.
