Replication to Teradata

Hi All,

We are thinking about replication to Teradata database using SAP Replication Server.

We want to check replication as:

ASE -> RS -> ECDA for ODBC -> Teradata ODBC -> Teradata Server

I am afraid of performance issues of such solution and if SQL syntax will readable for teradata odbc.

Maybe there will be need of using RS function strings.

Is there anyone that has experience in such replication?

Or maybe I should think about:

ASE -> RS -> ASE (staging database) -> Flat File -> Teradata

My knowledge about Teradata is very poor.

Thanks for any help

I had a similar requirement recently.

My first thought was to use ODBC drivers to Teradata.  To be sure I opened a tech case.

Initial response from SAP was on similar lines that it is possible.

Then there was  a complete U turn from the support person stating that Replication to Teradata using ODBC is not supported.

I ended up using ECO (Express connect to Oracle) to give the data into Oracle database/schema.

From there it is being picked up by Informatica to be sent to Teradata.

SAP ECDA + ODBC heterogeneous replication explicitly supports MSSQL and DB2 only.

For want of time I could not try the route Mark suggests. It will involve tweaking a a few scripts to work on Teradata side, especially the rs_lastcommit update part.

Since ODBC drivers to Teradata are available for various OSes, given enough time you MAY be able to tweak and make the scripts work for you 🙂

Good luck 🙂
