Dear Experts,
We are planning to perform the OS migration along with EHP7 upgrade.
Please find the source and target details below.
Source
OS: HP-UX 11.23
DB: Oracle 10
SAP: R/34.7
Target
OS: SUSE Linux 11
DB: Oracle 11
SAP: SAP ECC6 EHP7
Best Approach:
Option1: Migration -> Upgrade
Option2: Upgrade -> Migration
Hope both the options need to perform dual upgrade. R/3 4.7 to ECC 6 and then ECC 6 to ECC6 EHP7. Please let me know the best approach to be followed.
Regards,
Raja. G
Hi Raja,
As per me first option would be best for the complete procedure to minimize the issues during upgrade process and also to reduce complications.
For more details please follow SCN thread

Hope this will help you.

Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,
Hope the post you sent is not relevant in my case as we need to perform the heterogenous copy.
Sequence which am planning is mentioned below.
Option1: Migration -> Upgrade
1. Export the R/3 from HP-UX and perform the import in target OS SUSE Linux lower version.
2. Perform the ECC6 upgrade in target OS.
3. Export the ECC6 and perform the OS upgrade to make it compatible for SAP ECC6 EHP7.
4. Import in latest OS version.
5. Perform the EHP7 update on SAP ECC6 system.
It involves 2 export/import and 2 upgrades.

Raja. G
Hi,
One slight change in the plan mentioned above.
As LINUX SUSE SLES11/X86_64 64BIT is supported for R/3 4.7 as well.
Option1: Migration -> Upgrade
1. Export the R/3 from HP-UX and perform the import in target OS SUSE Linux latest version.
2. Perform the upgrade directly from R/3 4.7 to SAP ECC6 EHP7 in target OS.
However someone please confirm.

Raja. G
Hi Raja
You have to perform four steps
Step 1 - Do the OS /DB migration in the lower version (DB version same on OS: SUSE Linux 11 )
OS /DB migration you have to perform the old method(Not SWPM) before that check the PAM
Step 2- Upgrade the SAP R3 4.7 to ECC6 (Not on EHP level)
By using the SUM tool
1878193 - Central Note - Software Update Manager 1.0 SP10 [lmt_006]
Step 3 - Do the Database upgrade
From Oracle 10 to latest version, before that check the PAM
Step 4 Perform the upgrade from ECC 6 to EHP 7 ERP6
By using the SUM tool
1878193 - Central Note - Software Update Manager 1.0 SP10 [lmt_006]

Hi Sriram,
Thanks for the reply.
As LINUX SUSE SLES11/X86_64 64BIT is supported for R/3 4.7 as well.
Option1: Migration -> Upgrade
1. Export the R/3 from HP-UX and perform the import in target OS SUSE Linux latest version.
2. Perform Oracle upgrade.
3. Perform the SAP upgrade directly from R/3 4.7 to SAP ECC6 EHP7 in target OS.
Is there any specific reason not to perform the direct upgrade from R/3 4.7 to ECC6 EHP7. Please explain.
Regards,
Raja. G
Hi Raja
1. Export the R/3 from HP-UX and perform the import in target OS SUSE Linux latest version.
Your source system version very low SWPM will not support (SAP R3 4.7) you have to perform heterogeneous system copy old method.
2. Perform Oracle upgrade.
Kindly refer the Prereuestie for Oracle 11g
1431800 - Oracle 11.2.0: Central Technical Note
3. Perform the SAP upgrade directly from R/3 4.7 to SAP ECC6 EHP7 in target OS.
You can perform the direct upgrade (Either ECC6 EHP 7 or EHP6) its not problem. and also check the version interoperability with EHP7 for SAP ERP6
1388258 - Version Interoperability within the SAP Business Suite
1737650 - EHP7 for SAP ERP 6.0 SP Stacks - Release & Information Note
If possible you can perform this options in the test system before in live enviornment.

Hi Raja,
My suggestion would be to go with both options in a sandbox systems, as in both cases you would be facing many issues but yet, the best approach should be decided from your experience on doing so.
The advantage in both cases would be many as you will be already aware of issues and resolution.
