Valid From in MDG-F Edition

When we create an edition for a change request of adding a cost center or profit center, valid from date in Edition will pass onto the new cost center/or profit center as a start date of the object.

What will happen if we want to create a change request of changing a cost center desciption text? We do want to keep whatever the original dates on the cost center with the new description text. What we go about valid date in Edition assiciated with the change request?

Thanks

Luo

Hello Luo

Edition concept is similar to your validity date / analysis period in FI. When you change any profit center or Cost center from MDG with open edition, the valid from date will remain same. You have to make sure that you are using same edition which you have used while creating.

One more point - there is a note to change the description of CC and PC. Check whether the note is implemented or not otherwise you will not get the required changes.

Thanks Kiran.

Does that mean that we need to create edition with the same start date used in Cost center master or profit center master to initiate the description text change of the cost center or profit center?

Hello Luo

Yes. Take a dump of all CC from your ECC system. Analyze the date i.e validity period and based on that create editions. Start with old period. Load the data in the edition. Release the edition and then create next for different period range.

Example - 100 CC valid from 1900 to 2012. - Edition 1

500 CC valid from 2012-2013 - Edition 2

next bunch valid from 2013 till 9999 - Edition 3 which is open....

Thanks Kiran.

as i read the example you provided, I came up with another question for you.

To create Edition 1, how do I enter ending date 12/31/2012 in edition 1 ? it seems to me ending date is set to infinitive 12/31/9999 by default as we create any new edition?

Hi Luo,

as mentioned before, you never define an ending date. It is always calculated. an example:

Edition E1 is valid from 01.01.2014.

Edition E2 is valid from 01.01.2015.

Edition E3 is valid from 01.01.2016.

You create a cost center CC1 in E1. It is valid from 01.01.2014 to 31.12.9999

You channge CC1 in E2. That creates two time slices for CC1. The first one is valid from 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2014, the second one is valid from 01.01.2015 until 31.12.9999.

You create a cost center CC2 in E1.  It is valid from 01.01.2014 to 31.12.9999.

You delete cost center CC2 in E3. The time slice of CC2 is now defined as 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2015 since you have deleted CC2 in the period 01.01.2016 to 31.12.9999.

Best regards

Michael
