Hi experts,
I have doubt about the kernel upgrade.
1.can i upgrade any version to any version of kernel?
2.Kernel upgrade is depending upon the OS kernel patch?
Please suggest.
Regards,
can i upgrade any version to any version of kernel?
SAP Kernel is a bundle of all the executables, it's a cumulative collection so it can be upgraded from any version to latest available (Applicable for Kernel updates).
However release upgrade depends on the PAM (For ex, 720 to 721 etc.).
Kernel upgrade is depending upon the OS kernel patch?
OS, SAP and Database (Types) are the dependancies for Kernel as exeuctables are developed and tested on sepecific OS/DB/Application types.

Hi

Any SAP versions 700, 701, 710 and 711you upgrade the kernel 720
Refer the SAP Note - 1629598 - SAP Kernel 720 will replace older kernel versions
above version SAP 1716826 - Usage of the downward compatible kernel 721 (EXT)
2.Kernel upgrade is depending upon the OS kernel patch?
Not only depending on OS you have to check the SAP Support pack release.
Refer the PAM & SAP Note
1989619 - SAP Support Package Stack Kernel 7.20 (EXT) Patch Level 600
