Hello,

What are the risks and benefits of EWM as add on and EWM as standalone. ?

Advantages if you go as Add-on

EWM is a Standalone Application Software which you can install as add-on in existing server. That means, you can have Single Server set up for both ECC and EWM Applications. That does not mean, you no need to build interfaces. You still need interfaces/Integration Setup.

That means, you are running two applications in single box.

Then, What are the advantages here?

Advantage is Server infrastructure and Maintenance cost will be reduced. because, you are maintaining single server instead of two servers.

If server goes down, both the applications go down.

Advantages If you implement as Standalone Server?.

If your warehouse is maintained/driven by LSP (Logistics Service Provider) or Third Party, Then you need EWM Installation as Standalone Server.

Why?

LSP/3PL, is a Another company who maintains your warehouse or Carry out your Receiving & Distribution needs. By implementing, EWM as standalone server, you will be sharing those information only to them.

So that, they will not have access to your ECC System where Major company data sits.

your 3PL/LSP operates on EWM System.  With real time interfaces, the stocks will be getting adjusted accordingly in ECC based on transactions. So, you can access your stock details both from ECC and EWM. Where as, your LSP accesses stock data from EWM System.

Another advantage, If you implement as standalone server, Even, If ECC goes down, you can carry your warehouse operations in EWM. When Server is up, the Queues will be processed accordingly to be in sync with each other system.

These are the major advantages. Altervative to each other is the disadvantage

Can any one please suggest which installation is recommended for EWM..whether should we go for add on or standalone.

Hope, Based on the above explanation, Considering System Maintenance cost, Warehouse that need to be operated by, Based on Parallel availability of the system, you can take a decision.
