Dear All,

I am in the process of upgrade kernel patch level of ( my exsiting kernel info SAP Kernel :  721_EXT_REL & Kernel Patch number : 201 ).

Now I am confused while downloading the kernel pacth level from service market place .

Support Packages and Patches - K----------------> we are having 2 options ( we are 64 bit)

1)SAP KERNEL 64-BIT

2)SAP KERNEL 64-BIT UNICODE

1) My doubt is what is the difffrence between which option I need select ?

2) If I select 2 nd option

• SAP KERNEL 7.21 64-BIT UNICODE 
• SAP KERNEL 7.21 EXT 64-BIT UC

for which option we need select ,Please suggest merits and demerits

Hi,

my exsiting kernel info SAP Kernel :  721_EXT_REL

As you're currently on 721_EXT_REL and the options

1)SAP KERNEL 64-BIT    -------------> Meant for Non Unicode

2)SAP KERNEL 64-BIT UNICODE ----------> Unicode kernel

If your system id unicode system then prefer 2 option and go for SAP KERNEL 7.21 EXT 64-BIT UC

SAP KERNEL 7.21 EXT 64 bit UC.

If i download SAP EXE and SAP EXEDB files is enough are we need to download any other files.

One more doubt here we are having Windows on X64 64 bit option only , here we are unbale to find Windows X86_64 option

Please suggest we can go head download based windows on X64  or is their any other option is available to dwonload the windows X86_64 option

For this you can refer SAP Note  1553301 - 7.20 EXT Kernel - Usage

If i download SAP EXE and SAP EXEDB files is enough

Yes these files are enough just for kernel upgrade.

One more doubt here we are having Windows on X64 64 bit option only , here we are unbale to find Windows X86_64 option 

For this could you share the screenshot if possible.

Hi SAP,

he SAP kernel 721 is a full replacement of the SAP kernel 720 and older SAP 7XX kernel versions (700, 701, 710, 711) and can be deployed as a kernel patch.

The note 1716826 explains the usage of the SAP kernel 721 as a downward compatible kernel for NW 7.00-7.31 based systems

Refer SAP note below for more information on Kernel 721

1728283 - SAP Kernel 721: General Information

SAP kernel 721(EXT) is used as a downward compatible kernel for SAP basis release lower than 720.

Refer below SAP note for more explanation on this.

1716826 - Usage of the downward compatible kernel 721 (EXT)

For kernel updates you may download SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR files only.

You may download 

SAP Kernel 7.21 64 BIT UNICODE

SAP KERNEL 7.21 EXT 64 bit UC.

Above kernels are compatible with x86_64 only.

For Download the kernel file refer the SAP Note 1726899 - 721 DCK: Upgrade from 7.0n to 7.1n - Point number 1

To install the kernel follow the SAP Note 1713986 - Installation of kernel 721 (EXT)

If you have a Unicode system then you need to select the Unicode kernel. if you have a non Unicode system then you should select the non Unicode kernel.

SAP KERNEL 7.21 64-BIT UNICODE
SAP KERNEL 7.21 EXT 64-BIT UC

They both are Unicode kernels. One is the EXT version.

If the OS and DB supports the EXT version then you may use that.

You can go with Windows on x64 64bit  This is for desired Windows X86_64 option.
