Oracle restore with datafiles

     Hi

We had a  Portal 7.01 system running on Oracle 10.2.0.5 on Solaris 10U10.

Yesterday there was an accident at server location and after that we have lost all the archives and SAP logs

We only have SAPdata files left with us

Now we have to bring up Java system just with SAP datafiles only.

Can you recommend a process on how this can be achived.

Would installing a new SAP instance with same hostname and SID and then replacing the SAPdatafiles  with the one we have in backup work?

Plz guide

Regards

Tushar

Hi Tushar,

Yours being JAVA based system you need to have file system backup in addition to data file backup to restore your system back to operation.

Please check for availability of relevant backups and proceed further.

Hi Tushar,

You need archives to restore.

Don't you have any backups on a storage medium. Try to use them to perform point in time recovery to the best possible. There will be some data loss depending on how old was your last backup.

However as this is portal system, there must not be big data changes since it is not OLTP or OLAP system.
