How to send Idocs to a PI java only using PI's gateway and not any R/3 gateway?

Hi,

we are working with a SAP PI 7.31 java only instance and I am checking out the Idoc Adapter for AAE. As far as I understand until now it is not possible to use the local gateway service of the PI instance for RFC communication. Regardless from where I am trying to connect I always get "Gateway not connected to local R/3".

I have configured

  • An SM59 ABAP connection (Type 3) pointing to my pi instance -> "Gateway not connected to local R/3"
  • A destination XI_IDOC_DEFAULT_DESTINATION of type RFC in the nwa in the pi instance as described in the sap help -> "Gateway not connected to local R/3"

It is especially annoying that defining XI_IDOC_DEFAULT_DESTINATION and one inboundRA for all incoming traffic is recommended by SAP itself. But it seems to work only for a dual stack instance using the gateway of the abap stack.

Can anyone please comment on this? Do I understand it right or is there a way of sending Idocs to a PI java only using PIs gateway and not any R/3 gateway?

Thanks, Jochen
