How to make field changes in SRM at item level

Dear All ,

I have a requirement where I would need some help .,

In a limit SC I need to restrict the option Required field  instead of Drop down it should always have one option that is

"Between" as shown and the end date should be made mandatory in such a case ...

By modifiying /SAPSRM/WDC_UI_DO_LIMIT and going to component configuration I am able to make the end date mandatory ..

however the check fails still since if the field is left as blank instead of Between option the system automatically changes it

to "From"  and the end date is then wiped off  by the system

Please can some one guide me if there is an option to make  changes in this by meta data concept ..if not what is the way out ?

I tried doing the same in component configuration but do not want to use access key ..

Please let me know Any help would be much appreciated ..
