same error with new SUM 1.0 SP10 PL4:
R3trans in /usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/exe is too old.
as some month ago, (=> http://scn.sap.com/thread/3383079)
we created new MOPZ ticket,
select Kernel 720_EXT-600 to download
select NW731SPS07 to download
select new SUM 1.0 SP10 PL4 to download
select new HOSTAGENT to download
update HOSTAGENT first
extract SUM and start SUM
.......
R3trans in /usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/exe is too old.
because we know this error from before, we did:
- download r3trans + tp seperately (from Kernel 720_EXT-600)
- extract the archives to /tmp directory,
- copy the r3trans + tp manually to /usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/exe
repeat SUM step .........
why is this manually copy of r3trans + tp necessary and cannot be done by the SAP-tools (MOPZ or SUM) ?
Hi,
Like we need a specific SPAM version before proceeding with the upgrade by SUM tool (It happens separately during checks phase), we need newer executables which enable SPAM to upgrade the system. And this is also the part of checks phase.
So by asking for newer tp and R3trans, the system is actually setting up the environment for the upgrade to happen.
The actual upgrade and kernel switch happen much later in the process.
If the question is why the SUM tool is not doing all of this itself if it already has whatever it needs, then the answer would be that the tool is just not that smart.

Hello
The SUM tool copies the original kernel from the DIR_CT_RUN location to the kernel location of the upgrade directory (/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/exe)
If the TP and R3trans are old then you will be getting this error.
