Hi Ponnusamy,

First unload the repository, the verify/check for any errors. If there are any, then Repair it. Then click on 'Archive Repository' from QAS. Login to production and Unarchive the archived copy of the repository. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Thanks Shamir & Thamizharasi,

Need inputs on the following points as well.

1. Any SAP Note or documentation on best practise for Data Migration from QAS to PRD.

2. Is there any limitation on the number of repository created on each instance or server. how many repository can be created at max.

Thanks Again.

Hi Ponnusamy,

There is no such limitations on the number of repositories you create on each server but it depends on your server size.

You can refer SAP MDM Console Manager Guide for documentations related to archive and unarcive of repositories.

Thanks,

Shamir

Hi Ponnusamy,

1. Archive and Unarchive is the data migration procedure available between any servers. If u are really concerned about doing this for the first time, you can try doing it between Sandbox and Dev servers if you have them in the landscape. If not, try doing it between two different, unimportant repositories in lower level envronments.

2. As Shamir rightly said, u can refer to the Console reference guide for Archive procedure. The number of repositories can be depending upon your DB size. However the less the number of repositories more will be the performance. Also the number of records in the repositories and the number of tables in the repository plays a vital role in the performance.

Post us your further queries:)

Hi Thamizharasi,

Thanks for the response.

If we are doing Archive and Unarchive of repositories, then configuration migration like schema export and import is not necessay here. Is my understanding correct.

If you are saying DB size, is that harddisk space or includes everything like space, memory, cpu.

Hi Ponnusamy,

          1. You can do the archive only if the repository structure matches. If in case the QA and PRD repository structures are different, you have to do the Import Schema of Exported QA schema into PRD and then you should go for the Archive process.

          2. And for the DB size, it means the underlying DB on which the MDServer is installed.

Hi All, I would like to know how will you handle migration when there are remote keys involved . Ex : MDM is connected to 3 ECC systems and each number is different . Now considering that we are moving from Dev to Quality or Prod . The data is copied for Remote keys as well , but this data is invalid as the Remote Keys are it is for Dev . is there any other Easier option apart from syndicating the data to the Quality ECC and updating the MDM systems with the new remote keys via Imports or any other method ???

Hi Ponnusamy,

The option "Archive Repository" is specifically meant for this purpose . Archive the QAS repository first followed by "Unarchive Repository" into the PRD server. The process is quite simple.
