Did you mean:

"The instance number 98 you entered is reserved." During Agent install

Previously the Diagnostics Agent was installed on instance 98. The uninstall was successful, however I am unable to reinstall. Any idea?

Check whether there is an entry for the system number 98 in the /usr/sap/sapservices file

Thanks Reagan, there is no sapservices file. What is the name of the file. I have checked entries in registry and also windows --> services file. Seems ok.

Any further help please ?

Have you restarted the sapinst after the uninstallation of the DA ?

I would try these:

Delete the directories from the OS level used by the DA (if there is any)

Start the sapinst with a fresh copy of SWPM

Later version of SWPM tool resolves the issue. Appears to be a bug.

Hi,

Did you changed from 97 to 98?

I think that the new Diagnostics Agent (DAA) Instance always use 97, instead of old one (SMD) 98.

It's the other way round, older installations have 97. Please check /etc/services and netstat -an|grep 98. But you can also change the instance number to 97.
