SAP download manager speed is very less

Hi Experts,

SAP download manager downloads at a speed of 230KBs. The speed is displayed at the bottom pane of the download manager. I want to download 10GB files ( SAP PI 32 bit installation media), but it takes days. If I get 10Mbps or slightly lesser it should get finished in an hour or so.

I have 10Mbps connection. I could download at 10Mbps for packages like Ubuntu software from ubuntu site, using torrent. What is wrong with SAP download manager?

I find that it's very temperamental.  It depends which download server you end up being connected to.  For instance, when I'm downloading multiple files, it seems to alternate mostly between smpdl.sap-ag.de and smpdla.sap-ag.de.  One of those generally downloads at full speed, and no problems, and the other is very slow, by an order of magnitude.  I've had the network operations group at my site check into it, and they assure me we aren't throttling anything here, though I still wonder sometimes.

smpdl resolves to a mirror site at akamaiedge.net, and this is the one that is always slow for me.  smpdla doesn't use a mirror and goes straight to a site in Germany, and that one is typically always fast, though I've had slow days for this one, too.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any way to control which of these download sites you are redirected to.

Could be that is the reason. For the last three days , I am trying to download. Let me watch to which server it connects next.

Hi Gaurav,

The note says that large file download doesnt complete normally. But this is not my problem. My problem is that download is slow. However it is happening for me. If needed SAP can send across the DVD . In such cases the customer should request them. SAP also promise that they shall   take some steps to make files less in size.  Thanks for the answer, this can be helpful for someone else in the forum who see the thread.

For me it connects to smpdl.sap-ag.de . The one which is slower for you as well . it provides me 995KB/s

Thanks for answering.  For the tracefile I have to stop current download and restart SAP downloadmanager. I have clicked to pause the download, hoping that this might activate the options.  I shall revert to you once the trace file is available.

Please find below logs, I have successfully downloaded a single file with 976563 KB (1GB) in less than 30 minutes. Now I have put it for multiple downloads, once the trace is ready, I shall post it.

None of the mentioned are my issue. I have ample space and required authorizations to download. Regarding if it is issue at SAP's end - it cant be because the issue is there for last a few days.
