Hi EWM followers,
I am opening this discussion to try to understand what is really available on SAP EWM with SAP Hana (except the labor demand part which is more clear).
Yes there's some documentation available but at the end I didn't really succeed to make my mind on that.
- Can EWM run entirely on SAP HANA (meaning document creation, modification,.. are only stored and commit within an hana DB) or HANA is just available with the "side by side" approach involving SLT tool, etc...?
- If HANA is activated only with the "side by side" approach. How EWM knows where to query information (classic SQL DB or Hana)? Does the code needs to be changed (either standard or Z) or it queries database in hana by itself when they are replicated to hana?
Thanks everyone for sharing your understanding/knowledge on this.
JM
Hi Jean,
All can be achieved with SAP HANA no limitations.
EWM can run entirely on SAP HANA (meaning document creation, modification,.. are only stored and commit within and HANA DB).
if you go with side by side approach you need SLT where data will be pooled from any system to HANA.

Hello,
Even my understanding is also same as Suraj. From 9.1 on-wards, EWM can be move on to HANA. EWM9.0 or Before, It is like Side by side approach.
Another advantage by moving on to HANA is, The regular transactions will be much faster than usual. Because, there will be lot of select statements which will be fetched from HANA database are faster. that results in Very faster processing of all the applications.
And you no need to any modification to standard programs. SAP Standard will take care after 9.1 upgrade. For Z programs, I assume, we need to do recompile, then, we will come up with warnings and errors, which we need to correct accordingly.

Thank you Surash and Sathish for these feedback and very interesting information.
This is a very good news and I hope it will increase the rapidity of the EWM activities (especially the WT creation/confirmation and everything around TU closing/GI, etc...)..
Is there any risk that the writing (commit) to an HANA DB could be longer than a writing to a regular DB (like oracle, DB2, ...)? Does anybody have any experience on this matter?
Do we know if they were any EWM 9.1 rampup customers who used an HANA run environnment?
JM
