Hi All
In general we follow below steps to get product master data from ERP to EWM.
- CIF material master from ERP to EWM (CFM1/CFM2 in ERP)
- In EWM system, extend material to warehouse (/SCWM/MAT1 in EWM)
If I have thousands of materials in warehouse, how to automate this complete process. Please suggest if there is any standard SAP approach. I have heard that customizing BAPI or LSMW, but would like to know SAP suggested standard approach.
However, CIFing can be automated using batch jobs. Need clear guidance on extending products to EWM warehouse. Please help.
Thanks

Hi Pitz
Thanks for your help. This is really useful. After going through above conversation, I have gone through EWM110 and found that the same was mentioned there. Most of us, skip this important information and assumes that EWM product master is mandatory. Initially I too was surprised but after testing I have confirmed myself that it works.
May I know the reason behind this? Does it mean that EWM uses SCM product master data for all operations (if EWM product master is not available)?
Also with respect to packaging materials, I hope we need to maintain same data in ERP and EWM for ex. packaging groups, HU Types, packaging material types etc. which are used for HU creation. Are there any other details that we need to take care like this?
Thanks

Hi,
there is no "EWM product master". The warehouse product is just an extension of the product, just like the WM views in ERP are an extension of the material. Isn't it actually bad that you have to create the WM views in ERP just because you want to be able to store a material in a warehouse, even if you do not use any of the fields in the WM views? So I don't know any reason, I just think it is good the way it works...

Hi,
"/SCWM/MIG_PRODUCT - Warehouse Product Migration Will also help you in Mass Creation of Product Master Data."
And THAT is the worst way to do it
No, seriously. This transaction is definetely interesting for customers who migrate from an existing SAP WM into SAP EWM and do not change much in their warehouse - where you have to wonder then - why do they do it???
If you go through all the steps to migrate these data, I am sure I can setup the same with condition records for slotting - and can re-use that in the future. My absolute nightmare is that customers continue to use to create WM views in ERP and use this transaction again and again...
There is so much more the EWM product has then the WM views. (and I just want to mention it: first you always have to think about if you really need the EWM product!). Alone that you can maintain storage section indicators on EACH STORAGE TYPE - and that is something for sure do not get out of the migration.
OK, nice thing is to migrate the fixed bin assignement - but even then: bins, everything on storage type level, look so different in EWM. And I think (now this is a personal opinion) that you simply loose and give up a lot of possibilites when you just use the migration tools.
