Regarding SAP Installation Media's for Oracle

Dear SAP Experts,

I am working on SAP Implementation for one of our client. SAP has sold the licenses on Sybase Database but our client is not willing to use Sybase DB. Instead they wanted to use Oracle DB and they have the licenses directly from Oracle. We spoke to our SAP Account Manager regarding this and he suggested to raise an OSS to marketplace for changing the Installation Media's at Marketpalce but they are not doing it they asked us to connect with contract department and it's going in deeper loop.

'Here I have one query out of below list of installation media's which are database independent. Request your kind response on this so we can at least start with ECC 6.0 IDES System.

1. Unicode Kernel  ?

2. Installation Export ?

3. Oracle RDBMS - Already available from Oracle

4. N/W Kernel ?

5. Oracle Client - ?

Please highlight the media's which are database (Oracle/Sybase) dependent.

Vishal Jain

Hi Vishal,

For IDES installation for ECC 6.0 EHP6 refer guidelines from SAP note

1761605 - IDES ERP 6.0 incl. EHP6

Here you can space requirement for IDES based on ORacle or Sybase.

For your query

1. Unicode Kernel   - > DB independent

2. Installation Export  - > DB independent

3. Oracle RDBMS - Already available from Oracle -> DB dependent

4. N/W Kernel  - > DB kernel files are DB dependent

5. Oracle Client - > DB dependent

Hope this helps.

You can use the Oracle installation media from Oracle but you need to make sure that you install it as per the SAP recommendations.

Regarding the Sybase license I would contact the contracts department and get this changed.

For the installation you need to use SWPM tool.

All new installations are installed as Unicode systems.

Kernel can be downloaded from the SMP. Make sure to use the SAPEXEDB for Oracle.

I believe Oracle Instant Client is provided by Oracle as well.

Hi Vishal,

Kindly check SCN doc

Best is to go through with SAP Note  1554717 - SYB: Planning information for SAP on ASE

Hope this will help you.
