Is there a typical size for the shared memory in an ASCS

When checking the memory of the systems I look after, I found that the reported memory requirement for the ASCS was about 7GB. The CI reported a requirement of 14GB. Since there are only a few processes in ASCS, I liked to know what a typical memory requirement for ASCS is?

The ASCS contains the Message Server and also the Enqueue Server.

There is no specific requirement for the hardware resources provided or suggested for ASCS. That doesn't mean the ASCS should be setup with the least possible configuration as the Enqueue is part of the ASCS you need a significant amount of memory. Have a look at this SAP note and the attached PDF about what it ssys about the ASCS.

Hi Sjef,

How do you plan to configure your SAP environment ?

What do you plan for host1 and host2.

ASCS holds message service which basically does not require more memory. Ideally 4 GB RAM should be good enough for ASCS alone.

CI instance on a HA setup will not have message service. So it will be similar to an APP server. Memory requirement for CI could depend on how many WPs you plan to configure.

Hope this helps.
