Material Assignment in QP02 or New Insp Plan QP01

Dear All,

I need suggestion from all you experts,

Our material master is very vast day by day creation of new material is happening, so all time newly created materials are coming in CRTD status

There are two options we have : First we can create new inspection plan by using QP01 for that newly created material and another is we can do material assigment in existing inspection plan by using QP02.

The Problem is if user will create new inspection plan at that time they are not assigning MIC , they are creating Inspection plan for inspection lot release purpose only, there may be the chance for data incosistency.

From My point of view to assign new material in exisiting inspection plan which is maintained perfect ealier.

What would be the best practice to maintain authenticity for this master data.

Thanks,

Abhishek

Decision on creating new Inspection Plan for new material or updating the new material in existing Inspection plan is purely based on business.

If specifications in existing Inspection Plan matches with new material specifications, then you can maintain that new material in the existing Inspection plan as mentioned earlier.

Generally, all the Master data will be controlled by Master Data Management (MDM) team. Its their duty or awareness of maintaining Inspection Plan with all valid details.

Agreed.  This is purely a business process.   The fact that you are asking this question, indicates to me there are deficiencies in that decision process and/or the enforcement of following the decision process.  Only those with intimate knowledge of the materials and their specifications can determine if a new plan is required, or if the material can be assigned to an existing plan.

Just creating a new plan all the time as a stopgap solution is not the solution.

This will cause problems at some point in time.

Before approving any new material, there would be laboratory analysis and / or pilot study. Also, the new material will not be completely difference from the existing materials. Only some of the parameters may change or sometimes all parameters of existing materials may match.

While having laboratory & pilot run using that material, business can / may get to know the MICs required for that material. By that, they can able to decide whether to create new plan or to update the existing plan.

If Inspection plan is just created for sake of creating or release IL  & if you are not doing any result recording ,then its better to use option of removing the check box "Check char" in Inspection type level in Material master.

Hi,

If you have inspection plan that contains same specification as like new Material material, at that time you can assign new material to existing plan of similar specifications.

If Specifications doesn't matches with existing Inspection plan, create Inspection plan by maintaining MICs.
