why FWO is not checking BP roles?

hi guys,

I'm learning TM, recently I come to the business partner creation.

I create a BP: abc, and I maintained the carrier role.

I create a new FWO, in the BP tab, I can assign abc as the ordering party without any errors.

why is that?

And it's kinda confusing to me. What's the difference between the "BP role" in master data creation and the "party role" in FWO?

Some roles are common in both places. But a lot of party role doesn't exist in BP role.

What's the connection here?

Hello Aaron,

The reason you can use a BP with the Partner Role of Carrier in the Party role of Ordering Party is for flexibility. It is possible that one of your carriers could also be an ordering party. This happens quite often with 3rd party logistic providers.

Example 1 from the view of 3PL1:

Ordering Party: Some Shipper

Carrier: 3PL2

Example 2 from the view of 3PL1:

Ordering Party: 3PL2

Carrier: 3PL3

In most cases there isent a very strong link between between Party Roles and Partner Roles. This is beacause of the desire for flexibility. The only case where this is strongly tied is Carrier. In order to set a BP as a carrier on the FO, it must have the carrier partner role.
