Hello gurus,
Part of migration BW DB to BW on HANA is eliminating BWA. You can think this as simple as just deleteing all the BWA indexes. That should do it.
But how about if you have ;
1) BWA only infocube
2) BWA snapshot indexes (Query as infoprovider)
3) Explorer infospaces on top of BWA indexes
4) Following query properties .
etc etc What else are there BWA specific that I forgot? I need to make sure they are tested after the DB migration.
Is there any checklist to migrate/convert these things? Or maybe we don't need to convert anything and all will work? or none will work and we need to recreate them?
Cheers,
Tansu
Hi Tansu,
that's a good list.
1) True. Typically the data is present in a DSO as well (before you move it to the InfoCube on BWA). Running the query of the DSO is then a relatively quick solution.
2) Yes, but you can create snapshots with BW on HANA as well.
3) Yes, but you can use Explorer on top of BW on HANA models as well.
4) No. The setting works as is for both BWA and HANA.
#1 is included in my Checklist Tool (SAP Note 1729988).

Thanks Marc,
So is it safe to assume that if a customer has a BWA and wants to move to BW on HANA;
1)the above things needs to be checked and tested - recreate after HANA if necessary
2)delete the BWA indexes
3)negotiate with SAP to see if you can get any BWA credit toward HANA licenses
4)list your BWA machine(s) to EBAY
Jokes aside is there anything else you can think of
5) for retiring BWA and
6) making sure all BWA capabilites converted to HANA capabilites?
Cheers
Tansu
Delete BWA indexes is automatically done during post upgrade processing.
Obviously you need to check contracts with hardware vendor (especially if you are switching to a different one). That's also where you should ask about data center integration of the new hardware/network and high availability/desaster tollerance/backup & recovery which are all a bit different for HANA vs. BWA.
And you could ask yourself if you move your systems to the SAP HANA cloud.
