sfc serialize doesn't show location at SFC creation

Hello,

I am working with a customer and they want to use paneling. However, when we kick off the Serialization activity it show the Panel on the left side and the new SFC's on the right. However, no locations. the problem with this is that the new labels are printed and the customer doesn't know what label goes on what board that has been cut out.

Hi,

We noticed the same few years back.

We have case where we use locations and NC logging before serialization and serialization has to happen in certain order. We are using this only in fully automated process. It is too risky to use location in any manual process. If there is a possibility to do wrong sooner or later someone will do it wrong. And there is no way to find out that later on. Ok you migh have location markings on single products but still this is case next to impossible to solve later on.  At least in our case where we have order sizes of thousands.

So we have panel labeled with panel SFC and all individual SFCs. Then we scan the whole product in automated scanning station. Scanning station sends the information over to cutting machine that cuts individuals from panel and same time serializes. This all has to happen in same order every time. That is why machine is the only 100% correct way.

Hi Rusty,

Where are you doing this Serialize activity? Is it from the POD? If so, on the POD itself, you will see the  Old SFC number replaced with New SFC right? What do you mean by location here?

At the operation that I de-panel at I have a hook for serialize which pops up and shows the Panel non-SFC and the SFC's that are being created from the panel. However, if you have an NC logged against location 4 out of 4, the 4th SFC gets the NC. But the users doesn't know this. what happens if they put the wrong label on the wrong SFC and the NC is actually logged against the SFC in location 1.

You can't show the location during serialization without some customization.

Some things to consider:

1) first and foremost if labelling is manual, it needs a clear process, so that the boards are labelled in the same order every time. e.g. start top left and move to to right, then move to the next row etc

2) you could consider applying the serial labels up front (still needs custom work, but this has been done before). Fore sure, that's not always practical

3) can you automate the labelling? The benefits could offset the risks

4) if the location is marked on each board, then displaying the location in the serialization plugin might help, but if it's not, the operator can still label incorrectly anyway and still needs a clear process

5) core enhancement request to the serialization plugin

6) Other customers laser etc rather than label, and this can be a tiny barcode, applied at the start of the process. Of course, needs capital investment and ME custom work
