Hi,
I have a specific question:we have only BW 7.00 ABAP installed and want to upgrade to BW 7.31.
After the upgrade can we still have only BW ABAP or must we also install BI Java?
In other words is BW 7.31 ABAP-only supported by SAP?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Fabio Giovannetti
Hi Fabio,
You can install seperate instance of Portal and integrate the same with BI 7.3 ABAP.

Hello
The upgrade tool doesn't need a Java stack to upgrade the BW ABAP stack.
If you only have an ABAP stack then you don't need to worry about the Java part.
You can upgrade the BW ABAP stack to the 7.31 release.

SUM tool will identify the server as Dual stack. If you people are planning to upgrade only ABAP stack through SUM please consider the following points.
1)Split the Dual stack through Dual stack split tool and install Java Part in other server
2)There're 2 steps of detection of JAVA stack.
To consider that the J2EE stack is removed, the parameter
rdisp/j2ee_start
must be set to 0 in the instance profile. Make sure
this parameter is set properly and restart the instance for it to take effect.
The SL controller is using the directory structure to detect the J2EE
engine
Can you please rename the directoryj2ee dir under /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGSXX/j2ee
something else and start the upgrade all over again
3)If you want Delete JAVA Stack in system with ABAP+JAVA please follow the below thread.

Dear Fabio,
Now SAP Not recommanded for Dual Stack for SAP BW.
SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse comes for Separate Stacks.
If you want both stack in same server machine you can install separatly with Same SID, Integration of ABAP and JAVA stack take care of Sapinst automatically and Database also Connected MCOD option.
If you want two maintain ABAP & JAVA separate machine also fine. Integration do by manually.
If any one already have dual stack for BW 7.0...first they need to split the stacks then upgrade each stack separatly.
Thanks & Regards,
V Srinivasan
