"Define Web Service System" not available

Hello all,

i am totally new to the vc. I try to follow this <a href="/people/scott.cairncross/blog/2006/10/11/building-a-web-services-based-visual-composer-application on how to create a web service based app with vc.

One early step is to define a web service system....

However, the Installation i have at hand here does not offer me this entry in Tools --> ..

The Menu has no entry "Alert Data Services", either.

Has anybody an idea why this is?

Thanks a lot, Michael

Hi Michael,

See if you are not able to see this "Define Web Service System" option in your VC, then it does not matter much, because this is actually a shortcut to creating a web service system. I will tell you another way.

Just go through the following doc:

<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e017128b-0c01-0010-fa85-e3a576f1a40d">https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e017128b-0c01-0010-fa85-e3a576f1a40d</a>

This doc explains how you can create a web service system from within the portal.

Bye

Hi Ankur,

thanks for answering. the doc does not help much, since i run into the same problem doing it manually: when i right-click the visual composer folder --> new --> ... i don't have the option to create a new system. just iviews, pages and so on.

maybe i don't own the correct roles? i'm superadmin and VCRole owner. i use EP7.0.

Oh, Ankur: Is it necessary to yell for points with !! and no please? Thank you.

Cheers, Michael

Hey Michael,

I guess you are doing something wrong. Are you looking into Portal Content folder of the Content Administration tab?

Go to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Portal Content

Now go according to the doc.

Hi Ankur,

yupp, you were right in that i was mistakenly working in the content administration. however, the problem persists in system administration. i can create new folders and transport packages. no systems.

but here come some points your way...

cheers, michael

Edit: just noticed i was in the wrong menu again. It works just as you said in the correct one. thank you very much.

Hi

I tried to configure the steps given in this document, but when I went onto the second screen , it asked my to specify - System Name, System ID and System IDprefix.

I am new to VC and I would like to know where can I find these information. If you can walk me through the step -by -step process then it would be really helpful

Thanks

Hi Micheal,

what was next?

I did new WS_system by System Administration -> System Configuration -> Portal Content.

But I can't find it in Visual Composer 7.2 -> Search (not Find Data!) -> ....?

Yes!

This is what I was looking for. Thanks!

Might know the location (collections), where there are more such examples?
