Hi Ash,
Only 2 ways are for transport : Transport using File System and CMS
The usual way of transport from DEV to QA to PRD is via transport using file system......this method exports your things in a .tpz file and then you can use this .tpz file to import your thing in some other system....

HI,
1. OS level file transport?.
OS level file transport is used to transport the Developed Objects from Dev to QA and QA to Prod.
This is when CMS is not configured on landscape.
Also we can do the Object level , SWCV wise and namespace wise we can export into a file , this file to be send to QA by basis people later that is to be imported into QA.
and this is the traditional model.
2. Transport Release?.
this is related to object transfer from one user to another user in the same landscape not from DEV to QA or QA to PRD.
Say for example on user developed on scenario objects and activated , some changes or CR s came to specific objects then the other user can transfer that object into his change list from that developed user, later he can modify and activate.
3. CMS?.
CMS , through we can transport from DEVto QA to PRD.
before that , the CMS has to be configured. and see the below links to get more details
