Alternative Resource in CTP

Hi SAP Experts,

My current customer wants to use CTP to give a feasible date for Sales Order Schedule Items when entering the sales order. Is it possible to consider alternative resources (by using alternative sequences or resource classification) when entering the sales order? So the system would propose a shorter availability date in case preferred resource is fully loaded but alternative have some unused capacity.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Andre

You can obtain  good planning results  with finite scheduling on a time-continuous basis when it is used with  block planning  . This is always the case when the capacity requirements of the setup activities make up a large part of the total capacity requirements.

The following prerequisites must be met:

  •   You are using a  strategy profile with settings for time-continuous CTP  .
  •   The plan (PPM or PDS) contains only one resource to be finitely planned.
  •   The blocks are defined on the resource. The planned orders created by CTP are scheduled in a suitable block with free capacity. The capacity requirements can be taken into account for sequence-dependent setup activities. The CTP check finds the correct dates in predefined setup cycles.

Hello Andre

Another option would be to use product allocation to model capacities in the planning book and use rule based ATP to choose the resource with spare capacity.  That way you have more flexibility when modelling the capacities, and you can use back order processing to swap orders between resources when capacities change.

Good luck.

That is absolutely possible. But you have to use bucket finite scheduling mode in the scheduling profile of CTP other wise it will always use the first resource.

Frank,

I know my reply is coming about 8months too late. I've the following questions -

  1. You meant the "Strategy Profile" & not the Scheduling profile, correct?
  2. Also, did u mean the Scheduling Mode must be set to "Search for Free Bucket Capacity" & the Finite Capacity to Bucket Capacity?

On our strategy profile, we have this set up but the system doesn't pick the resource with the "latest" availability dates. it picks the 1st resource, based on master data priority.

Hi Andy,

you have to set the Strategy Profile Capable-to-Promise      SAP_BCTP in Maintain Global Parameters and Defaults in SPRO.

Strategy Profile   SAP_BCTP has the setting:

Sched. Mode Search for bucket with Free Capacity.

Finite Capacity Bucket Capacity.

These settings work.

Hi Frank,

Would there be more setting/s than what u've mentioned above? We have that setting & the orders still confirm to a later date than the the one it detetrmined during the 1st round of iteration.

Thanks
