Dear Experts,

In our ERP(ECC) landscape, Port 25 is configured for outgoing mails.  Please let me know, Can we use same port 25 for configuring incoming mails.

Thanks

Sumit

Hi Sumit,

You can use the same port to receive the emails in SAP.

Refer to configuration document.http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-46513

Hope this helps.

Hello Deepak,

Thanks for response. But , below link  says-> same port can't be used for another program

SMTP Configuration Guide (SAP Library - SAPconnect (BC-SRV-COM))

Thanks

You need to distinguish between incoming and outgoing connections. You can't have multiple programs listening on the same port on the same machine for incoming connections. For outgoing email, though, the listener for port 25 is on the remote end. Does that make sense?

Hi Sumit,

If you read the example in the link which you shared you can see same port is being used for sending and receiving emails.

Difference is physical port definition and virtual port definintion.

For receiving emails, virtual port needs to be defined using the profile parameters.

is/SMTP/virt_host_<*> = <host>:<port>,<port>,...;

This port number can be same like SMTP port defined with parameter

   icm/server_port_<*> = PROT=SMTP,PORT=<port>

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I didn't explain clearly.

You can use port 25 for both incoming and outgoing email. This works because the listener for outgoing email is not on your local server but on the remote server, so there is no conflict with the local listener for incoming emails.

Hello Sir,

Parameters  icm/server_port_0 & icm/server_port_1 is already configured for HTTP & HTTPS.

Can we maintain below parameter for incoming mails:-

icm/server_port_2 ->  PROT=SMTP,PORT=25$$$,EXTBIND=1.

how would we decide the format for Port in above parameter OR 25$$$ is ok....

Thanks

Hello SJ,

To Make concepts little clear, Port 25 for Outgoing is the Standard port for Your SMTP server(managed by Exchnage Admins) and this cannot be changed.

For Incoming, Your SAP AS acts as the SMTP server and the port cane be 25 or 25000 or any other free port on server. Use 'Netstat' command at OS level of SAP server to check if the port whichyou are about to use in SAP is already been in use or not. If not Just Assign any free port as per your wish.

Afterall, You are the admin of the SAP box.

Hi Arun,

Thankyou for clarrification. Following points clear(for incoming mail) from this blog:-

1) We can use same port  for incoming & outgoing mails.

2)  If above point is ok, then Parameter for incoming mail can be set as below:-

icm/server_port_2 ->  PROT=SMTP,PORT=25,EXTBIND=1

Please recommend

Thanks
