I have read some notes regarding on this I have found in using oracle database length will 12 characters .

I have read the below notes:

611361,849423

Can I able to install using above host-name or I need to change the host name .

Please suggest & and refer me any notes mentioned related to MSSQL server so that I can justify with my client to change host name.

Please suggest and guide me

Advance Thanks

Hello

It will be mentioned in the installation guide of the specific release.

Read the "Hardware and Software Requirements" section in the installation guide.

As far as I know the installation guide will as you to refer to the SAP note

611361 - Hostnames of SAP servers

Hi RB,

While calculating the host name length it will be calculated hyphens(-) or not?

It mean as per your suggestion its not possible to install with out reducing the host name .

Please suggest

Absolutely... special characters count, in my experience the use of special characters in hostnames is not a good idea.

Keep the hostname length to a maximum of 13 characters as suggested in the note

Everything that is part of the hostname like hyphen, number, dot will be counted.

Hi SAP Basis,

I know the procedure to install the sap system on host having name more than 13 character.

In case of MSSQL , you need to check while performing the installation.

Though SAP recommends 13 characters hostname.

Well, I think that it is not recommendation; it is a must. More than 13 characters are not allowed. Netbios allows up to 15 but SAP doesn't.

Really curious about your procedure.

I know first hand that passwords with special characters in Oracle is a no no.

Only way to find out is try it.
