Merging Universes

Hi,

Due to some unavoidable circumstances , we came across a situation where we need to merge 5 of our Universes in One.

All Universes are based on one database and having few of common tables if compared to each other.

Need your expert comments/suggestions on best practices and guideline to carry this activity

It’s on SAP BI 4.x , and all Universe has been converted to UNX from UNV

Please suggest.

     Since you mentioned that many tables overlap between the Universe and Linking is NOT support, your best bet is do the work manually.

• You will need to decide which UNX will become the master.
• Open the new MASTER UNX and other UNX one by one and copy manually between the UNX
• Update the Data Foundation first (Joins, Context, ...)
• Update the Business layer
• You can copy and paste between Data Foundations and Business Layer.

If you are planning for the linked universes then that feature is not available with BI 4.0

The only process to do this would be manual.. Take the most complex universe and add the additional tables and joins from other universe and create the new objects and define context as needed to resolve any loops based on your requirement..
