Capacity check in Bin

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone explain me how does the field Capacity used is getting calcultaed in the Bin.

I would like to set the combined control of weight and volume enhancing the field 'Capacity usage' in material master (WM1) and the field 'Total capacity' in bin.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks.

It is calculated based on your settings.
You have the following options:

* No capacity check

* Check according to maximum weight

* Check based on palletization accord. to SUT 1

* Check based on maximum quantity per bin in storage type

* Usage check based on material (the best option for you generally)

* Usage check based on SUT

* Usage check based on material plus SUT (maybe this one if you meet the req's)

According to your needs, it seems the most likely way to go
is the one I have put in bold text.

To use it you will need to incorporate both weight and volume in one figure
per a single piece of material and enter it in the material master.
This can get pretty complex so as Jurgen said, for more details you would
need to provide more information not only about materials but your bins too.

If you always have the same quantity on pallet the perfect solution would be
the last option - material + SUT. If not, then bold one.

Capacity is a dimensionless figure.

in some (rare) cases it could be equal to the weight. But often it is  pretty complex and takes a lot time in the initial setup to define it.

Just assume you have a bin with 10 m²

you can get  10 pallets with 4 iron drums each on the floor, since it is iron drums you can put another 2 pallets on top.

If you use the same space with plastic drums, then you get only get 1 more pallet on top.

and if you use the bin for pails, then you can store 10 pallets with 8 pails each and nothing on top.

What is your capacity?

120 iron drums

80 plastic drums

80 pails

an easy way is to find the smallest common multiple, here 240

This would be the capacity of the bin.

And in the material master you have to enter the capacity usage

in the material master of the iron drum the capacity usage would be 2

the material masters of the plastic drums and the pails would get a usage of 3

Best is to avoid that a lot different storage units can be stored in one bin (I am not even talking about mixed storage in the moment), best you have dedicated bins for a certain packaging type, this makes it easier to define a capacity and capacity usage.
