SIEMENS SIMATIC NET as OPC Server for PCo

Hi Experts,

We have used KEPServerEX from Kepware as an OPC Server to successfully connect the shop-floor PLC to MII via PCo.

However, due to some licensing policy in our organization we are now told to user SIMATIC NET from SIEMENS instead of KEPServerEX.

Can anyone guide me on how to use SIMATIC NET with PCo?

Regards,

Firoz.

Hi,

Kepware is always a good choice. We use it a lot. And it is far superior as it provides a OPC-UA server by default! Siemens does not. You have to fight with OPC-DA and the DCOM problems. Two thinkgs to note with Siemens:

  1. Siemens OPC-Server is not browsable! You have to enter the items and addresses manually.
  2. Often it is only possible to connect to Siemens OPC-Server by using the same user AND password like the Siemens OPC-Server runs with. The user is "auduser". The password is also well known. You can google for it 😉 (unless it has been changed).

Cheers,
Matt
