Hi everyone
I was hoping if someone can give me advice on the best practice for SAP DMS back up / recovery planning
We have a lot of documents stored through DMS and during our planned ECC outages our colleagues will need to access these documents whilst the system is down
Do you have any suggestions on how we can do this or provide a work around, is there a way of exporting copies etc?
Regards Andy
Hi Andrew,
All of your DMS original files are typically stored in the Content Server in compressed format and accessed/ processed from the ECC front end. Incase you have a scheduled downtime and still would like to retrieve documents directly from the Content Server(if it's still up!!), then use the url as below for the same:
[http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|\||]>
<Server_Name> = Content server (IP address or name of content server)
<Port_No> = Port No. of the server
<Version_No> = Version No fof content server (Transaction OACT)
<Content_Rep> = content category of the server (Transaction OAC0)
<PHIO_ID> = PHIO Id derived for each upload method

Hi Andy,
As DMS is linked to SAP ECC server, so during outage of SAP server time, user's are not able to access the DMS files. If user's tries to open/access the files, system will take much time & then it will give error message "C:\XXXX_file can not be created."
Thanks
Pravin

Hi Andrew,
As SAP DMS is linked with ECC as the frontend, when ECC is down you may not be able to access the documents.
If you want your DMS documents to be made available at other site , you may look into option of creating a DR solution for ECC along with SAP DMS.
When the primary site is down you can make DR systems up so that it can be released to users.
Hope this helps.
