Hi,

If it is only for a system copy, consider backup/restore method which doesn't require any downtime on source (already mentioned by RB).

If this is a homogeneous system copy then why don't you consider backup and restore ?

Hi Surya,

There are ways to reduce the downtime during export and import. Downtime depends on the database size and system resources available on the server.

We can make use of package splitting, table splitting, distribution monitors to expedite export/import processes.

Could you share more details on the database size, database type, Server details to get assistance on the steps to reduce downtime.

Hi Deepak,

Thanks for the reply. Database size is 500gb and the database is MS SQL, normally it will take 7 to 8 hours to complete the export of whole database. So is there any way or any technique to reduce the time or exporting the database.

Thanks,

SURYA

Hi Surya,

As suggested before you can optimize the export downtime with techniques like

package split, table split or increase CPU to increase the no of parallel jobs.

How much CPU does your server has ?
