Hi forum,
we have just try to archive some obj to our test system. All end OK without problems. What do we must do into Oracle-level after a large R/3 data archiving ?
Regards.
Ganimede Dignan.
Hi Ganimede,
there's nothing that you have to do, but it may be beneficial to reorganize the tables where the archived data has been deleted from.
That way space - now not filled with data anymore - can be returned to the tablespace freespace and used for other segments.
All necessary information concerning reorganisation can be found in the SAP documentation and the pretty comprehensive #541538 - FAQ: Reorganizations note.
Anyhow: the system will keep working the way it does right now, if you omit the reorganisation, so it is not a MUST DO at all.
Since it is additional work that puts I/O pressure on the db and may require a SAP downtime to reorganise tables with (LONG) RAW fields you should really think about if it would payoff in your specific case.

Hi Ganimede,
You may look at the SAP note number 53062 - Database reorganization and data archiving.
Hope it helps,

if using Oracle 9i or above and that tablespaces are Locally-managed, there is no real need to do anything unless you want to get retrieve disk space.
