universe based on SAP HANA OLAP connection

Can I create universe based on SAP HANA OLAP connection ?

How can i access SAP HANA view which was created using OLAP connection in WEBI and Dashboard? It does not allow creating Universe on top of SAP HANA OLAP connection and give an error.

SAP BusinessObjects query and reporting applications can directly connect to OLAP SAP HANA connections. No universe is required, only a published OLAP SAP HANA connection.

BI 4.2 allows creation of Webi on Top of HANA views directly and will fulfil your requirement. Refer the following article:

Do you mean connection to an SAP BW OLAP on top of a HANA box ?

if so then you just need to connect to the SAP system, this will work on using the HANA acceleration.

you can use then all the standard connection methods as if it would be a SAP box on a classical relational database.

for the meantime, create a relational connection to hana, then you can define a business layer ontop (i.e make it a universe) for webi .

that connection you've just created it OK for Crystal Enterprise, and Analysis OLAP, and Desgin Studio.

Henry - What would happen if we created an Analysis View in BOBJ that is connected to the HANA Analytical View and then used the Analysis View as a data source for WebI?

Ultimately what would be great is if we could navigate hierarchies in HANA within WebI with the traditional OLAP plus signs that you would see if you used WebI on an OLAP unx.

Hi Henry, we are on BI 4.1 SP6, we created a relational connection to HANA, we used a Calculation View with a level hierarchy, with a new business layer(unx) on top, we can't see the hierachies with a plus sign in Webi, the level hierarchy is flat, although we created a navigation path to recreate the "Hierarchy" is there any possible way to see hierachies in webi  connected to HANA ?

OLAP connection are only meant for tools that make use of OLAP connectivity only like BEx ..and HANA analytic views and calculated views are also treated as OLAP cubes for them..

So these connection is only available with analysis product like Analysis Office (which is meant to be used with Bex or OLAP cubes ) and Design studio which is again mainly built around OLAP paradigm..

You can not create a universe or Webi on Olap connection on HANA as of now.. However it could be like exposed in a future release of BO which is not public yet...
