How is Load balancing configured with multiple application servers SAP PI

Hi! Gurus

I do not have a full understanding of  how load balancing is achieved in a multiple application server environment with one Central instance.

1. Wat is a SAP Web dispatcher - Is it something which helps in load balancing - If YES - can you please share some info with regard to how it is configured and set up with multiple appl. server and a central instance of PI Server (SAP Process Integration ).

2. Is there any other way of configuring load balancing in PI

3. Once configured - how can validate that the load is being distributed across multiple servers of SAP PI - assuming it has been configured to have 3 application servers and one central instance.
