In fact you can schedule the import in standard SAP which transports all the released requests.

It is risky if you have many releases per day, and it is risky if you have this automated imports in Production without any control (At least you should have approval step configured (QA approval step in STMS), so that only approved requests goes into Production).

Hi

As Rishi Das has previously mentioned, Transport Express can be used to automate the import of transports through your landscape for Business As Usual / Production Support releases, and also for large Project cutovers / go-lives.

Transport Express does all the sequencing for you automatically, ensuring that your transports move in the correct order between systems (once the appropriate approvals have been granted of course), with all inter-dependencies factored into that sequencing. TE also ensures that any manual non-transportable changes to your SAP systems get performed at the appropriate time and do not get forgotten about.

In essence, TE cuts out on the human error often associated with the deployment of SAP change, by automating most steps of the end-to-end process. As a result, the quality of SAP change being delivered increases, with less import errors, less need for rework and most importantly of all, far less risk of SAP change causing issues in Production that have a negative impact on your business.

Transport Express also comes with a Build List report, that provides a sequenced list of all Transports and Manual Steps that can be broken down by Project, Team etc. So instead of spending hours manually maintaining spreadsheets of transports for your cutover, you can produce similar information (with no risk of human error) with a handful of mouse-clicks. Then, when your project is approved to be deployed in a SAP system, TE can be used to automate the import of transports in the correct sequence, avoiding the need for Basis team to create scripts or manually import the transports, enabling their time to be spent on more value-add activities.

Transport Express includes numerous different import methods, the two most TE customers typically are one of the the following:

  • One request at a time in TE’s default sequence:  This imports the transports one by one in the TE calculated sequence.

  • Block Import / Import All in TE’s default sequence:  This imports the transports using the block import method in the TE calculated sequence.

Thanks

Ross

For transparency, I should state that I work with Basis Technologies, the software vendor behind Transport Express and other SAP-certified products. Prior to this, I spent almost a decade working in various SAP Change & Release and other delivery roles for a large global SAP consultancy, and so know first-hand the many faced by many SAP customers still delivering their SAP Change using largely manual processes

Hi

There are multiple ways to move the transports into SAP system which are all based on the requirements and I think more importantly on the volume of the transports.

SOLMAN CHARM is definitely one method to go .  Also 3rd party tools like Transport Express provides some additional features to manage the transports in the landscape.

In many place , simple OS Level scripts can do the task . Also in some of the clients , I have seen the import  job scheduled in the system which enables the automatic movement of TR into the NON PROD system once approval is obtained from the business.

So in a nutshell - you have multiple options and it depends on your requirement

Thanks

HI Neni.

Rev-Trac is a 3rd party transport management product which amongst other things can make handling large cutovers a lot easier to deal with. The latest version of Rev-Trac includes an ability to simultaneously import multiple transports which is much faster than importing transports individually using a script. It can handle physically separated transport directories automatically.

Rev-Trac can automate all day to day transport migration tasks, is flexible and quick and easy to setup.

Hi Neni,

If you want to use SAP standard tools to perform transports , you may make use of shell scripts or vbscripts to achieve the same.

Option 2: You can make use of CHARM with Solution Manager to perform the transports so that all the transports can be performed in a controlled manner. Reports can be generated on the list of transports using solution Manager for tracking purpose.

Alternatively you may look into Transport Express tool available in the market.

Transport Express - Application Release Automation for SAP - run SAP projects faster with automated ...

Hope this helps.
