Hello,

We need to implement TDMS is our Landscape. We have downloaded the required guides for it. Can someone please list out its pre-requisites?

We will first test it in COE server and then implement it. Our current status is as following:

Component

Current Status

RAM

4.0 GB

Processor

1.59 Ghz

Sender system(release level)

ECC6.0

Receiver system(release level)

ECC6.0

Do we need to install only these components?

DMIS 2011

DMIS_CNT 2011

Hi Priyanka,

Yes, for using TDMS, you need to install DMIS and DMIS_CNT components.

Also ensure that you've applied the latest Support package of TDMS available in the market.

There is the standard recommendation for an add-on of the size of TDMS.

4000 SAPS are exclusively reqd for TDMS for the central/control system.

You need to follow the recommendations in the note

890797: SAP TDMS - required and recommended system settings

You also need to ensure that the required notes as per the below composite notes should be applied:

1713981 - TDMS 4.0- Composite note for SAP TDMS Applications

1644218 - TDMS 4.0 Composite Note for TDMS ERP

1653982 - TDMS 4.0: Composite note for TDMS BPL (In case you need to use TDMS Business Process Libraray)

1665861 - TDMS 4.0 - Collective note for Scrambling (in case you need to use scrambling)

1741455 - TDMS 4.0 - Basis Composite Note

Also ensure that all the roles and authorizations are generated as per TDMS requirements.

Thanks and Regards,

Rupam

Hi Priyanka,

To implement TDMS the following recommendations would be helpful to you,

  1. 4000 SAPS are required for TDMS for the central/control system.
  2. Install the components (add-ons) DMIS and DMIS_CNT in all the three systems (Sender, Receiver and Control/Central systems).
  3. Install the latest SP available in the market. Also make sure all the three systems are on the same SP level.
  4. The EHP level of the sender and the receiver system should be the same.
  5. The EHP level of the control system should be same as that of the sender and receiver system or it could be on a higher level.
  6. Please refer to the notes 1730566 and 890797, for all the recommended system settings for SAP TDMS.
  7. Archive logging should be switched off in all the systems if possible.
  8. TDMS should be allocated 20 Background jobs and 20 Dialog jobs each in all the three systems.
  9. Please refer to the below composite notes and implement the required notes in all the three systems as mentioned in the composite note
    1. 1741455: TDMS Basis Notes
    2. 1713981: TDMS Apps Notes
    3. 1653982: TDMS BPL Notes
    4. 1665861: TDMS Scrambling Notes
    5. 1619059: TDMS HCM Notes
    6. 1711327: ITDMS ndustry solutions Notes

With respect to the TDMS users, the following is mandatory,

  1. Composite Role : SAP_TDMS_MASTER_CR to be assigned to a dialog user in the Control System.
  2. Composite role : SAP_TDMS_RFC_USER_700_CR (if the Netweaver release of the system is 700 or above) to be assigned to communication user in all the systems or
  3. Composite role : SAP_TDMS_RFC_USER_CR (if the Netweaver release of the system is below      700)  to be assigned to communication user in all the systems
  4. Authorization to access the general ABAP transactions like SE11, SE16, SM37, SE37, ST04, ST06, ST22, SE24 etc.

I hope this was helpful.

With warm regards,

First off, 4 Gb of RAM is going to make your TDMS process take a large amount of time for sender/receiver/command/control.  If you can provide 12 Gb or more you will have far more time on your hands.

Along with RAM the processors on the command/control system will spike quite high for long periods of time, I have a 3.0+ Ghz environment and my command/control (dedicated) system has 16 CPUs and during a migration is typically 75% or higher pegged.

In my environment with all that hardware it takes around 20ish hours for 2 months or less in a time slice scenario.  We recently had to perform a full transfer and the process took 1.5 to 2 days to complete (Our databases have yet to hit 1 TB in production).

As for the DMIS and DMIS_CNT question, you have to match the version for your system; so if your ECC system is NW 7.0x that is the version you install via SAINT.  Also worth knowing, NW 7.4 systems are covered via the 7.31 DMIS* support packages.

Also go straight to SP05 and learn how to use the PEM feature as this is a fantastic addition to TDMS, but know that you must install a pre-req snote before going to SP05 or you will have frequent short dumps in your system and be required to do manual activites after the SP05 install if the snote is missing.
