Out of Memory Issues in HANA

Former Member

Hi ,

we are facing poor system performance issues on a regular basis such as

  1. Out of memory allocation issues
  2. Index server issues as more threads are consumed for each query execution
  3. OLAP cube runtime errors

These isssues are very common when testing
performs scenarios execution in parallel as part of developed Models.  In HANA, for every query we run , it consumes CPU utilization
more than 90%, Uses avilalbe threads for concurrent execution and as a result it will impact other similar queires in pipeline for subsequent exeuction
planned for other sceanrios. On many occassions we resulted with memory allocation failure after query it takes 15-20 mins and would requires to
repeat(5-6 times) the same to get the output on an average it produced results 2/3 times out of 10 times.

Please see the attached screenshot which contains details about Memory and Disk.

Best Regards,

Sridhar

Hello Sridhar,

In regards to memory issues, please refer to Note 1999997 and Note 1840954.

If you would like to see what allocators are currently using the most memory or if you would like to see a historical view of the memory consumption, you could refer to Note 1969700. Contained in the attachments in this note is a list of rather handy SQL statements. If you download this list and run the HANA_Memory_TopConsumers_History.txt statement. In this SQL statement you can alter the date period of when you would like to query the memory consumption. It will bring back the allocators that consumed the most memory. You can then find out what each allocator's function is by looking at Note 1999997.

In regards to High CPU, it would be advisable to have a full system info dump and kernel profiler trace ready for the processor on the SAP side. You could also look at Note 2100040.

To generate a Kernel Profiler trace please see Note 1804811.

To generate a Full System Info Dump please see Note 1732157.

Best Regards,

Michael
