Usage of STARTRFC.EXE & RFCEXEC.EXE

Hello!

We are using SAP ERP systems EHP4 with SAP Kernel 7.21 (100).

Due to security settings we would delete startrfc.exe, rfcexec.exe & rfcexec.sec from SAP Kernel directory.

Does anyone know the consenquencies for this?

How can be identified whether or not these files will be used for some interaction with SAP system?

Thank you!

Hi Axel,

I would not delete them, you could change the permissions to remove "execute" in a test system and see how you fair.

In any case, what is your particular concern about this executables?

Hello!

The security settings do not allow to have these files (see also sap note 1581595).

Which problems can occur by deleting these files?

What are the usage scenarions where these files can be used?

Ok, if you are using kernel 7.21 then this files should be gone by now, I presume you overwrite the old kernel rather than replacing it.

Well, that depends if you use them or not, If you do use them the you'll need the RFC SDK.

What are the usage scenarions where these files can be used?

Most of the files on the RFC SDK are command based and they are used to call on to SAP via and RFC to execute, upload or  retrieve data.

Many thanks!

How can I figure out, whether or not these files are used for any scenarios?

Are the some specific jobs/reports/tcodes that can help me to figure out this?

I only can detect the RFC connection of type TCP/IP "SERVER_EXEC" that of course does not work if I remove RFCEXEC.exe and STARTRFC.exe.

Thank you!
