Hi,
I only see unanswered threats on this.
When trying to connect Dashboard Designer to Universe, log in detail is reviewed and correct but you receive error "Failed to connect to BI platform. If this error keeps occurring then refer to SAP note 1668437 for troubleshooting"
SAP Note 1168437 is not a solution to this, as log in access passes before getting the error.
Dashboard Designer 4.0 SP06
All servers are running and have been restarted etc.
Tomcat can be accessed
Above error received as administrator log in so not a user security issue.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
Marius
Hi Everyone,
I faced this same issue today and was able to resolve following two basic steps:
1) Checked CMC for FQDN, followed by check on the hosts file found in path "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc". I had removed the ID and used the correct name there. Also please ensure concurrence between the entries in host file and CMC -> Applications -> Web Service Name.
2) I checked the privacy and content policies on the Internet Options of Internet Explorer [Main Browser used for portal activities], I had reset them to a lower security level than current with pop-ups allowed from this portal and other content and trust level activities. After adjusting them I was able to successfully re-login and goto my dashboards.

Hi Marius,
We had the same issue when creating a dashboard on BEx Query through Query Browser.
But the below setting solved the issue,Apply in your Default Browser (IE),
Internet options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Check only "Automatically detect Settings" and Uncheck the other options.
Thanks

Hi,
We are on 4.0 SP7 Patch2 and we do see the same issue.
Note 1168437 does not resolve the issue.
Please update if anyone has a workaround/solution for it.
Thanks,
Sagar

Hi Marius,
When you add a query in dashboard designer, can you please enable fiddler trace at the same time.
This will help you to locate the problem.

Hi Marius,
1. Logon to Central Management Console (CMC)
2. Go to Applications
3. Now double click on Web Service and go to Properties
4. Confirm the URL which is updated here
As another test, can you check if below URL:-
http://<hostname>:8080/dswsbobje/ works fine or not.
Ideally you should set URL with hostname under this properties and update hostname/IP address in hosts file under "System32\drivers\etc".
Thanks,
Vivek
Hi Marius,
As you are trying to connect to universe from your system, the IP address and hostname entry for BO Server is needed on the client system
Please update the host file in your system and try again.

Javed

I'm trying to use Dashboard designer from a different masjien. (BOBJ is on a linux server)
So I got a valid key and now I'm getting SAP note 1668437 which refers to adding my hostname as also mentioned above.
In regards to the SAP note, I'm stuck at point 3 below;
SAP Note 1668437 - Resolution
Steps for resolution:
1. Dashboard Designer connects to the universes through web services under the hood. Check the path registered in the CMS with the following through the query builder: (http://localhost:8080/AdminTools/querybuilder/query.jsp )
2. Select SI_ACCESS_URL from CI_APPOBJECTS This gave the correct path. e.g. http://Win2003EEx64:8080/dswsbobje
3. Copy and paste this path into Internet Explorer and see if it resolves. If localhost is resolving but machine name isn't open the apache server.xml file and drop in an alias with your machine name under the hosts section.
The server.xml file is located at [path_to_]\Tomcat\conf\server.xml e.g. <Host name="localhost" appBase="C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Tomcat6\webapps" unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true" xmlV alidation="false" xmlNamespaceAwar
I get to the file - Where do I add my computer name and how?
"drop in an alias with your machine name under the hosts section" - I don't see a host section
Nothing in that file really makes sense to me. (attached)
Thanks in advance

Marius
Hi Marius,
Just specify the correct url in the CMC->applications-->web service.
the correct url would be http://tomcatservername:port/dswsbobje
Click on save and try.
Also copy the same url in browser and test whether you are able to see the services

Amit
Hi Marius,
Enter your BOBJ Server details in hosts file , you can access the same by typing "drivers" in run command, it will open up a new window from there go to folder name "etc" , inside etc you will find "hosts" file.Open it with notepad and add your server entry.
Eg:
192.168.1.1 hostname
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Javed
Hi Marius,
Add it to your machine from where you are running the dashboard / trying to connect to universe.
Not on the server side.
Also test from your client system in command prompt:
ping <bobj server ip address>
If its working fine or not.
Kindly let me know if you face any issues.

Javed
Hi Marius,
If after doing the above your issue still persists than try the below method:
1. Logon to Central Management Console (CMC)
2. Go to Applications
3. Now double click on Web Service and go to Properties
4. Update the Access URL as mentioned below and click on Save & Close:
http://<Web Application Server Name>:8080/dswsbobje
5. Now launch Dashboard Design, and check
Also check the url on your system if its opening the services page.
Regards,
Javed
Hi,
I have done that previously and http://192.168.0.114:8080/dswsbobje/ does open the Apache page but still no luck with dashboard designer.
Not needed, the user should have proper permissions to access reports/universe.

Hi,
Change the ip address to hostname in the URL. http://192.168.0.114:8080/dswsbobje/
sometimes it works.Just check.

Javed
Hi Marius,
Amit is right. check the access URL in cmc -> Applications -> Web serivce.
Validate this in bowser. Also make the hosts file entry.
Try with servername, IP address or on server go to CCM and copy the computer name and pate it for servername below:
