PI Alerting

Email as a notification of errors is bad at best.  First, you need to be monitoring your email (at 2am) when the alert is sent.  This means you are also going to be alerted by every SPAM email that happens to come in at that time.

SMS is very expensive to implement particularly in places where colleagues are traveling globally.

We are interested in using an iPhone/Android application similar to "Pushover" which will allow a basic notification be be sent from the command line.  This will theoretically allow us to isolate the notifications to on-call support team members when critical alerts do happen.

I'm looking for how-to documentation to help facilitate this command line interaction with SAP PI using PI 7.1 and 7.3

Hi Gerard - AFAIK, there are no inbulit features availble which will facilitate the command line interaction to process the alerts.

However you can write a simple java program to read the alerts (in 7.3 it's very simple as we have provided with the webservices to read) and execute command line to push notification.

How about SNMP?  The problem revolves entirely around the how bad a notification method email is...once we can get the alert into a more flexible tool, it will vastly improve over a simple unread email.

Its interesting that a tool as powerful as PI has such a weak notification and monitoring system.  Although their documentation seems to be consistent.  😕
