Hello
An ABAP system does not require JVM to function.
sapinst will require JVM/JRE during the installation process.

Hi,
VMC is a component that is integrated into the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP. It provides a JRE that is compatible with J2SE 1.4. However, we should not to be confused with the SAP NetWeaver AS Java, which provides a runtime environment that is completely compatible with J2EE.
Starting with kernel 7.01, the VMC is available in each release. The VM container patches are contained in the DW.SAR archive or in the SAPEXE.SAR archive.
For rest all cases ABAP will use Java only during installation..
Thanks

Hi Jan,
It is just the partner Jvm (Sun/Ibm) that are not supported anymore and replaced by SAP JVM.
The new installation tool (SWPM) does include its own SAP JVM.
For an ABAP only system you should not need an extra JVM.

1689942 - vendor JDK required for sapinst with install./system copy
Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 already includes the required SAP JVM. For details please refer to note # 1680045.
