Non-UC BI 700 to UC BI 740

Hi all

I want to migrate from NW 7.00 BI Non-UC to NW 7.40 BI UC

A CUUC is not possible (see SAP note   http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/928729 )

AS-IS:

SAP: NW 7.00 BI SP26 Non-UC

OS: AIX 6.x

DB: DB2 9.7 LUW

What is the best approach? and of course a possible way?

1. approach

- on source preparation of migration of Non-UC to UC

- export

- import on target to NW 7.00 SR3 and DB2 9.7 LUW or if possible 10.1

- Post activities after unicode  migration

- Upgrade to NW BI 7.40 and DB2 10.1 LUW

2. approach

- on source update to NW 7.40 BI Non-UC (if this possible 1. NW 7.00 Non-UC to NW 7.40 Non-UC and 2. to DB2 10.1 LUW)

- on source preparation of migration of Non-UC to UC

- export

- Post activities after unicode  migration

- import on target to NW 7.40 UC and DB2 10.1 LUW

or is there any other / better approach?

Thanks in advance for a solution

BR

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

in most scenarios with one downtime for both upgrade and Unicode conversion (inclding CUUC) the Upgrade is executed before the Unicode conversion. Therefore I would recommend to use option 2.

If you don't have any hard time constraints, then if it were me, I would prefer to use the newer tools to perform the UC.

So, I would run option 2.

My reason is because the UC touches every single piece of data.  If there is a bug in the older conversion tools, you may have lots of patches/fixes and workarounds to implement.

Just my preference.
