Hello everyone,
I'm planning a BW upgrade from release 7.0 to 7.31 (ABAP Only). The system has the following components:
BI_CONT - version 7.04
PI_BASIS - version 2005_1_700
SAP_ABA - version 7.00
SAP_BASIS - version 7.00
SAP_BW - version 7.00
Plus:
FINBASIS - version 6.00
SEM-BW - version 6.00
Plus ST-A/PI and ST-PI
My questions are the following:
1) As the system has FINBASIS + SEM BW, can it be upgraded in one step to 7.31 with SUM?
2) The system is still using the authorizations from BW 3.5, Do I have to update the authorizations to BI 7.0 before the upgrade? or It can be done after the upgrade? Which is the best approach?
3) If the SW components FINBASIS and SEM-BW are upgraded in BW system, Does the ERP has to be updated to an EHP? (assuming ERP is 6.00)
4) I was checking SAP Note 1326576, What are the differences between scenario 4 and 5, If your BW is ABAP Only?
Regards,
JAM
Hello
1) As the system has FINBASIS + SEM BW, can it be upgraded in one step to 7.31 with SUM?
You can upgrade them in one step using the SUM tool.
First make sure that the OS and DB are supported for the BW upgrade in PAM
2) The system is still using the authorizations from BW 3.5, Do I have to update the authorizations to BI 7.0 before the upgrade? or It can be done after the upgrade? Which is the best approach?
Please read this upgrade document as it suggest to migrate to the new authorization concept before the upgrade. The old authorization concept doesn't work with NW7.3x
1911259 - Analysis Authorization Missing after Upgrade to 730
1685338 - Analysis Authorizations missing, deleted or inactive after upgrade to 730
1917777 - Analysis Authorizations missing or inactive after upgrade to BW 7.3
3) If the SW components FINBASIS and SEM-BW are upgraded in BW system, Does the ERP has to be updated to an EHP? (assuming ERP is 6.00)
You do not need an upgrade of the ERP system.
4) I was checking SAP Note 1326576, What are the differences between scenario 4 and 5, If your BW is ABAP Only?
Solution Manager MOPZ is the answer. Maintenance Optimizer will take care of all the dependencies involved. You just need to make sure that the system definition is correctly maintained in the Tx LMDB.

SHello everyone, one last question:
Now I have the following issue:
I know that a direct one step upgrade to BW 7.31 (with SEM 7.36) is possibe from BW 7.0 + SEM 6.0:
After this upgrade, I need to apply SAP BPC 10. However, a Unicode system is mandatory. This BW system is No Unicode so I was thinking about a CU&UC process but according to SAP Note 928729
this is possible to Release 7.3. So I want to know if its possible a direcct one step to BW 7.3 (with SEM 6.34)?
According to SAP Note 1539356 I need the following software components prior to upgrade:
SAP_BASIS 701 as part of EHP4 of SAP ERP 6.0 with
SEM-BW 604
FINBASIS 604
SAP_BS_FND 701
However according to the following document its possible:
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-30452
On the other hand,
Would you recommend to perform an upgrade to 7.3 with Unicode conversion CU&UC? or Its better to perform both activities separated? If I perform the activities separated should I try the unicode conversion first or the upgrade?
Regards,
JAM
Hi,
If you are fine with NUC, you can continue with NUC in 7.31 after the Upgrade, so no UC conversion is necessary.
For the modeling of the SEM Add-On there is now a new and better solution available to handle the SEM Add-On as a pure NetWeaver Add-On (not ERP component anymore).
See the Blog on the BW ALM Page -

Hi,

) As the system has FINBASIS + SEM BW, can it be upgraded in one step to 7.31 with SUM?
Please use solution manager to generate the stack file and it will calculate the dependency of all the components. You will have to used the SUM tools. But little strange that FINBASIS + SEM BW componencts are deployed in the BW system.
(assuming ERP is 6.00)
Please use the UDA tools to check the dependency.
4) I was checking SAP Note 1326576, What are the differences between scenario 4 and 5, If your BW is ABAP Only?
In the note if you see both are related to different version.
Scenario 4 (Update to NW 7.0 EHP3😞
Scenario 5 (Upgrade to NW 7.3 EHP1😞
Thanks

Hello,
1) Yes, you can upgrade it in one step using SUM.
2) You should update authorizations after upgrade.
3) It's not required. But you can run upgrade dependency tool to analyze if there is any dependency.
4) SAP NW 7.0 EHP3 and SAP NW 7.3 EHP1 both are same but the only difference lies for As Java system. SAP NW 7.0 EHP3 based Java system has version 7.02 while SAP NW 7.3 EHP1 uses version 731.
As far as difference between scenario 4 and 5 are concerned, scenario 5 says if your have already updated ERP components to 6.06 level but you want to rewrite product information and installed products. You can refer to link of the guide given in the note for more information.
